BLAKGROUND ON COLORISM:
Oxford English Dictionary—prejudice or discrimination
especially within a radical or ethnic group favoring people with lighter skin over those with darker skin Alice Walker- first coined the term and defined it as
“prejudicial or preferential treatment of same-race people based solely on their color,” which continues to this day. And as she once wrote,
“…unless we
exorcise it, we cannot as a people progress. For colorism like colonialism, sexism, and racism impedes us.”
Urban Dictionary—Racism within members of the same race. For instance, light-skinned African Americans looking down on and discriminating against darker-skinned African Americans.
Colorism is just as harmful as racism perpetrated by whites on Blacks.
RESPONSES BY HENRY SCOTT JR.
- Did you know the definition of colorism before this interview?
- Well, i was born into knowing what people state it is, without knowing the psychological science behind this madness that have created a mental bondage for most.
- This method was created by a European by the name William Lynch that came to the shores of James River in the year 1712, and establish this system that we as a people have incorporated into our lives due to losing ALL knowledge of ourselves.
- Therefore yes, i heard this term without the science of what it was, or is.
- What does colorism mean in your words?
- Now that I know the dictionary version, I would say that colorism is black people being prejudice toward other black people because one is darker than the other.
- Through what lens have you encountered colorism, and have you experienced and/or contributed to it?
- If we look @ the word ISM, its a distinctive doctrine, or practice which is a suffix thats added to any word that turn itsef into a noun, and from a noun into action which is a verb.
- And Color, Black isnt a color. It’s the essence and orgin of ALL colors in the Universe. We can take the black crayon out of the Box, and COLOR all of the other COLOR’S on each other and get Black. Black is the Originator, Ab-Original. Ab means first, original meaning the Orgin, the beginning. So Color mean White people and they turned it around an start calling us colored people and we are not.
- Has this interview enlightened or disheartened you in any way? How so?
- I would say that having sisters out in the Free world that think as you do was enlightened to me, not the colorism. In the near future, i would love to be a speaker on your podcast. I humbly thank you for allowing me to give you, and the world a piece of my expression. Peace!
Sincerely,
I AM: Henry M. Scott Jr.
